Yup, Silksong Is Here and It Is Very Good
Hi, my name is Luna Owler and I'm a skong believer.
And the believers have won.
What else can be said? Several bosses in, about two days after release all I can say is that there are games you wait your whole life to play and I got to live to play mine. I would like to thank Team Cherry for making us another banger. Seriously guys, this was worth everything. Thank you.
Uhm, wait, the post can't end there, can it? I suppose not. I guess we can interrogate some of our other feelings about Silksong. We can ask some more questions.
Like, can anything be learned from Silksong's development? Uhm, probably not.
The thing is that while the story behind Silksong's long development is as heartwarming as it is unexciting, it is extremely uncommon. Hollow Knight bought Team Cherry near infinite roadway, which came after the Hollow Knight kickstarter bought Team Cherry a long development cycle as well. What can you even learn from that? If you run a once in a lifetime successful kickstarter which then produces an incredibly well received game, you'll make enough money to take your sweet time to make a sequel? Those are not replicable conditions for the average independent game development team.
But can we celebrate that it happened?
I think there's a real inclination to be pessimistic about the state of things but hey, this once... Everyone wins. Team Cherry got to make their game, we get to play it, and indie games get a new darling to show off that flies in the face of AAA wisdom.
Silksong is here, and it is very good. I hope you give it a chance, and I think it's not only worth your time and money, it might be your next favourite game. And if it isn't, well... There are much worse ways to spend $20 and an afternoon.
Sigh, bapanada
From Luna, with love.
